Personal life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dilip Kumar was born \u00a0on 11 December 1922 \u00a0Muslim\u00a0family at\u00a0his family home\u00a0in the\u00a0Qissa Khawani Bazaar\u00a0neighbourhood of\u00a0Peshawar.\u00a0He was one of the twelve children of Lala Ghulam Sarwar Khan and his wife Ayesha Begum. His father was a fruit merchant.
Dilip Kumar was schooled at the\u00a0Barnes School\u00a0in\u00a0Deolali\u00a0(now in\u00a0Maharashtra).\u00a0He grew up in the same locality of Peshawar as Raj Kapoor. In 1940, he moved to Pune and set up a dry fruit supply shop and a canteen.

Kumar was familiar with his local language Hindko as well as Urdu, Hindi, Pashto, Punjabi, Marathi, English, Bengali, Gujarati, Farsi and Bhojpuri and Awadhi languages. He was also a great music lover and knew how to play the sitar for a film. He loved cricket and played it often.\u00a0

Dilip Kumar and\u00a0Madhubala\u00a0were in a relationship for seven years. And they never worked together again after\u00a0Mughal-e-Azam<\/em><\/em>\u00a0(1960).In 1966, Kumar married actress\u00a0Saira Banu, who was 22 years younger than him. He later married Hyderabad-based socialite Asma Rehman as his second wife in 1981.that marriage ended in January 1983. And then later Banu and Kumar started living together in Bandra. They did not have any children.

Career<\/strong>
Kumar made his first acting debut with the film\u00a0Jwar bhata<\/em>\u00a0(1944) and the last film Qila<\/em>\u00a0(1999).
After experiencing two more unsuccessful films, Dilip Kumar found success with his fourth film, “Jugnu” (1947), where he co-starred with Noor Jehan. This film became his first major hit, achieving significant success at the box office. Following that, his next notable successes came in 1948 with the films “Shaheed” and “Mela.” Both “Jugnu” and “Shaheed” topped the list of highest-grossing Hindi films in their respective release years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1949, Dilip Kumar received his breakthrough role in Mehboob Khan’s “Andaz,” alongside Raj Kapoor and Nargis. Upon its release, “Andaz” became the highest-grossing Indian film at the time, although it was later surpassed by Kapoor’s “Barsaat” in the same year. Additionally, “Shabnam,” also released in 1949, was another box office success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political career<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2000 to 2006, Dilip Kumar served as a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s parliament. He was nominated by the Indian National Congress to represent Maharashtra. During his time in office, Kumar allocated a significant portion of his MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds toward the construction and improvement of the Bandstand Promenade and the gardens at Bandra Fort in Bandra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
